Jean-Claude Hollerich joined the Jesuits in 1981. In Rome he read philosophy, while in Tokyo he studied Japanese language and culture and theology. He was ordained a priest in 1990, and he has been serving as the Archbishop of Luxembourg since 2011. In relation to the acts of terror committed across Europe he is of the view that perpetrators are directing their anger toward the continent because “Europe shows the world that extremism is meaningless.” He thinks the “old continent” is a place where very diverse nations are capable of co-existence and manage to find common ground along their shared values.
